Weekend trail running, Malta

One stage of the coast, every weekend.

We are a weekend running club that takes on one stage of the Malta coastal trail at a time. The point is the path, the company and the view — the running is relaxed, nobody gets left behind, and there is always time to stop for a photo.

Next stages

Each weekend we run one section of the Malta coastal trail. Walk the climbs, stop for the view, finish together.

  • North

    Xemxija to Golden Bay

    • 15.7 km
    • 340 m climb
    • Relaxed, walk the climbs

Starts on the old Roman road out of Xemxija and climbs to the ridge above Golden Bay. The most scenic stage we run and the rockiest underfoot, so trail shoes are worth it.

  • West

    Għajn Tuffieħa to Dingli Cliffs

    • 14.0 km
    • 420 m climb
    • Relaxed, photo stops guaranteed

From the bay up past the Victoria Lines viewpoint and along the cliffs. Exposed in the afternoon heat, which is why we start early.

  • South East

    Marsaskala to Marsaxlokk

    • 12.5 km
    • 180 m climb
    • Easy — good first stage

The gentlest stage we do, and the best one to bring a friend on. Swim and breakfast in Marsaxlokk afterwards is tradition.

  • Gozo

    Ramla Bay to Xlendi

    • 16.0 km
    • 500 m climb
    • Relaxed, longer day out

A full-day outing with the ferry, so we meet earlier and make a day of it. Check the schedule before you book anything.

Not a race club

We are here for the path, not a personal best. Expect talking pace on the flat, walking on the steep bits, and a proper stop when the view deserves one.

Stages are usually 12–16 km along the coast. Some are rockier than others, and the Gozo day is a full day out with the ferry.

What to bring

  • Trail shoes (road shoes are fine in the dry)
  • 1.5L water — taps are scarce on the west coast
  • Sun hat, sun cream, a light wind layer
  • Something to eat for the longer stages
  • Phone and a charged battery
